Men in their thirties with inflamed gums caused by\"erectile severe periodontal disease are three times more likelyto suffer from erection problems, according to a study
\npublished in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.

\nTurkish researchers compared 80 men aged 30 to 40
\nwith erectile dysfunction with a control group of 82
\nmen without erection problems. This showed that 53%
\nof the men with erectile dysfunction<\/a> had inflamed
\ngums compared with 23% in the control group.<\/span><\/p>\n

When the results were adjusted
\nfor other factors such as age and
\nBMI, the men with severe periodontal disease were 3.29 times more
\nlikely to suffer from erection problems than men with healthy gums.
\nLead author Dr Faith O\u011fuz said:
\n\u2018Many studies have reported that
\nchronic periodontitis (CP) may
\ninduce systemic vascular diseases
\nwhich have been linked with erection problems. To our knowledge,
\nerectile dysfunction and CP are
\ncaused by similar risk factors, such
\nas ageing, smoking, diabetes mellitus and coronary artery disease.\u2019\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
