MarketTools spearheaded the findings, in association with biological anthropologist Dr. Helen Fisher and evolutionary biologist Dr. Justin R. Garcia of The Kinsey Institute at Indiana University.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cWhether they research potential dates on Facebook; if they \u2018hook up\u2019 with co-workers; how many times they have fallen in love; what they \u2018must have\u2019 in a long term partner\u2014we asked them just about everything,\u201d according to dating website.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The results of the third-annual 2012 survey were posted on Match.com\u2019s blog this week, and highlighted some other interesting tidbits\u2014besides teeth preferences and the importance of speech\u2014which were telling of America\u2019s dating singles.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The survey largely focused on the impact social media and online dating services have had on atypical meet-ups and budding love interests.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cA historically unprecedented number of single Americans are now turning to the Internet to find love,\u201d the survey said. \u201cNearly one-third of singles reported that they have dated someone whom they met online.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
With the days of meeting singles through mutual friends or at a bar falling behind digital dating services and immediate Internet access, the \u201cSingles in America\u201d study showed that 49% of women, and 27% of men, said they would cancel a first date based on information uncovered during a quick Google or Facebook scan.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Because of that, a solid portion of daters also admitted that they clean up their personal pages before welcoming a friend request from a potential suitor.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Since most peoples\u2019 phones are attached to their hands, the study also asked how singles would react to a date sharing \u201csexts\u201d that were sent to them.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Unsurprisingly, nearly half of the men asked said they wouldn\u2019t mind, whereas only 13 percent of women said they were OK with it.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Collectively, nearly a quarter of those surveyed admitted to sharing a sexy photo sent from another person.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Sticking to the technology theme, the study unveiled that over 90 % of singles also agreed turning to your smartphone, and sending a text message to end a relationship, is not proper etiquette.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cSexting, new attitudes about virginity, the rise of \u2018friends with benefits,\u2019 emerging \u2018Internet etiquette\u2019 and women\u2019s rising roles in courtship all presage a dramatically new dating landscape,\u201d Fisher said about the extensive survey results.<\/p>\n
